Application Engineer

Primary functions include playing a supportive role to senior engineers as well as completing and presenting proof of concepts directly to customers.  As an Application Engineer, you will work both independently and as a team member to prove out feasibility of application, design solutions, and develop project specification documents that may include cost and labor estimates.

An engineer’s responsibility at Gibson requires consistent, timely, and effective communication with peers, managers, salespeople, and customers.

All engineering positions at Gibson Engineering will include an aspect of technical support both for internal resources and customers. Providing education to our customers in a one on one, classroom, or presentation environment is often required.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Effectively and creatively apply technology and products that Gibson Engineering represents to solve or help troubleshoot problems.
  • Generate concepts, 2D & 3D drawings, and quotations for machine frames, guards, turnkey systems, and engineering services.
  • Regularly communicate status and expectations of ongoing support efforts to management, salespeople, or end customers as required.
  • Perform technical feasibility and proof of concept work as required to establish confidence level for potential automation solutions.
  • Leverage and build relationship with manufacturer’s support resources as necessary

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
  • 1+ years of SolidWorks design experience.
  • Experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, or a machine shop preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years’ experience in the mechanical engineering field.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time and occasionally walk in an office environment.
  • Must also be able to lift up to 30 pounds to support administrative tasks in the office.
  • Must be able to effectively type using a keyboard and use computer peripherals, such as mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
  • Work may involve periodic travel to vendors throughout the US for specialized training and regular regional travel to support customers and engineered solutions. Overnight travel is infrequent.
  • Light assembly or machining on the shop floor will be required at times.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required to meet deadlines.
