Electrical Controls Engineer

Primary functions include specifying a single product, developing a concept, programming, or designing a full controls package. A control engineer will work independently to provide technical drawings or quotations and develop multi-discipline turnkey system proposals or project specifications as a team member.

Managing projects and schedules for open production orders is often the responsibility of the Controls Engineer, which requires consistent, timely, and effective communication with peers, managers, salespeople, and directly with customers.

All engineering positions at Gibson Engineering include providing technical support, both internal and external.  Educating our customers in a one-on-one, classroom, or presentation environment is also required.

 

Job Functions:

  • Generate quotations for projects that include cable assemblies, control panels, turnkey systems, and programming services.
  • Design control systems.  This includes electrical schematics, component selection, and panel layouts.
  • Configure, program, test, and debug various automation equipment and systems. This includes but is not limited to PLCs, HMIs, motion controls (Servo, Stepper, VFD), data collection, and vision systems.
  • Manage open engineering projects and regularly communicate status and expectations to management, salespeople, or end customers as required.
  • Provide engineering support for customers, internal staff, and sales engineers at Gibson or onsite for engineered solutions or technical products.
  • Provide customer education one-on-one, to a small group, or in a classroom environment as a subject matter expert.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline or 3-5 years in a technical or engineering support role.
  • Strong computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets)
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, including but not limited to PLC, HMI, and motion control products, is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.
