Job Summary

Gibson Engineering is currently seeking a Logistics & Quality Manager to oversee inventory and material flow and overall quality. This role will ensure order fulfillment processes are efficient and timely, implement a rigorous quality system, and manage all the daily shipping/receiving activities. This position will work closely with other departmental managers, including production, customer service, and accounting, to establish priorities and benchmark and maintain the highest possible service levels.

Job Responsibilities

Shipping & Receiving Team Responsibilities

  • Receive daily parcel and freight deliveries; review items against packing list, check for damaged goods, ensure purchase orders are received into the database accurately.
  • Maintain inventory database; cycle counts, resolve and document discrepancies, adjustments, etc.
  • Inspect, document, and communicate receipt of high-priority expedited or custom components.
  • Pick and stage internal production orders in an organized fashion as tickets print.
  • Pick and pack components as an individual, kits, or assemblies from inventory for daily shipments.
  • Work with other managers to continually evaluate inventory levels, including regular evaluation for obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
  • Maintain and continually improve warehouse and available shop floor space for organized, efficient, and well-documented storage of all inventories.
  • Manage BIN locations in an orderly and organized fashion
  • Build skids, pallets, and appropriately package, strap, and wrap items for shipment
  • Accurately complete BOL and other required shipping documents
  • Ship components and assemblies via UPS, FedEx, and other parcel services, as well as request LTL and dedicated trucks for timely delivery


Quality Management Responsibilities

  • Work with our Production Manager to document processes, including inspection and results for all custom kits, assemblies, and production orders.
  • Complete and respond to customer-supplier surveys and questionnaires.
  • Establish a quality manual and develop standards and processes across shipping/receiving, engineering, and the production teams.
  • Continually evaluate ISO9001 and ISO13485 certification or other quality compliance measures to determine potential impact and return for our business relative to the investment


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain “power-user” status in the corporate ERP system (P21) with a clear understanding of operations across multiple departments.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the standards, technologies, or methodologies related to shipping/receiving and inventory management and any evolving standard Industry quality or compliance expectations.
  • Set team goals, develop KPIs, monitor and report overall performance to management.
  • Identify training needs and providing coaching to stay current with evolving business needs.
  • Facilities-related maintenance tasks, errands, and other “odd jobs” related to both front and back-office are often assigned to the shipping/receiving team as needed.


  • BS or BA from an accredited college or university in a related discipline or comparable work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years management experience; prior inventory management or quality experience preferred.
  • Experience at an ISO9001 business preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, past exposure to Epicor P21 a plus.
  • Familiarity with warehouse equipment including fork trucks and pallet jacks; forklift certification a plus
  • Safety training experience a plus.
  • Experience with FedEx platforms, UPS manifest systems, and domestic/international shipping documentation.
