The Accounting Specialist is an integral part of the finance team.  Reporting to the Spencer Fluid Power Controller, it is a hands-on role providing problem solving and setting credit limits as well as accounting support to major operational functions. These include accounts payable, customer credit and collections, as well as reconciliations of various GL accounts. 

The ideal candidate will have a high attention to detail, ability to trouble shoot and problem solve with customers, vendors and internal team members, and drive process efficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Timely reconciliation of vendor statements by resolving billing, payment and debit/credit issues
  • Support timely and accurate processing of accounts payable invoices, including resolution of variances with three-way match process
  • Reconcile EDI incoming accounts payable and resolve differences in a timely manner.  Support EDI processing of vendor invoices
  • Monitor accounts payable aging and addresses aged items
  • Ensure accurate coding and balancing of associate expense payments through payroll or T&E system
  • Calculate, post and reconcile various monthly expense accruals 
  • Ensure accurate balancing of intercompany receivables and payables
  • Review and address unapplied cash and short paid customer invoices
  • Perform collections activities, including communication with customers for overdue accounts. Work to resolve root cause of discrepancies.
  • Establish and regularly monitor customer credit limits; address customers on credit hold and determines whether to release
  • Develop collection call maintenance in ERP system for traceability of collection calls and process review
  • Back up accounts receivable associate and perform complex customer account reconciliations
  • Monitor COD account payments and ensures accurate postings
  • Develop and maintain reports and files on accounts payable processing.
  • Develop and maintain regular reports via the company’s accounting system.


Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years’ experience in general accounting or accounts payable desk
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies and procedures that is reflective of distribution sector preferred
  • Experience with ERP automated accounting systems (Accounts Payable 3-way match, EDI transaction processing and high volume processing).
  • Strong, proven Excel skills 
  • Team player
