Position Summary:

The Market Development Manager, Innovation Technologies is responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing technology-based solutions that will generate sales volume for the company while adding value to the service center customer base.  The Market Development Manager is an automation expert who leverages indirect influence with sales and business development expertise to generate potential projects, value selling, customer acquisition, and deal closing. 



  • Develop offering of IIoT solutions to deploy nationally
  • Solicit customer feedback and establish direction for IIoT that can assist the USSC customers and utilize the Applied Automation platform of expertise
  • Identify and coordinate strategic account automation projects in technologies extending beyond IIoT to include Vision, Robotics and Motion
  • Lead SA projects to completion through utilization of the local automation teams
  • Own new business development including coming up with a sales growth plan to meet or exceed on an annual basis.
  • Lead collaboration between voice of the customer, Applied service centers, and Applied subsidiaries to identify and address gaps in their process technology with their readiness to adopt new solutions and technology.
  • Integration and implementation of the company’s technology sales roadmap, prioritizing initiatives based on selling value and adoption probability.
  • Design and evaluate proof of concepts by partnering with Applied subsidiaries and third-party integrators to execute on the defined technology sales roadmap.
  • Work independently to develop market segment penetration strategies and go-to-market implementation plans to drive sales growth.
  • Quote, revise, negotiate prices, and prepare contracts as needed to secure business opportunities.
  • Create and deploy Marketing communication, support materials, and messaging to maximize market exposure and results.
  • Active involvement in industry-related associations as well as distributor and customer events.  Attend tradeshows and conferences as necessary.
  • Continuous assessment of cutting-edge technology to determine applicability in our industry and probability of customer adoption.
  • Constantly refine your skill set by taking advantage of learning opportunities and being open-minded to facing new challenges.


Education/ Work Experience:


  • 5+ years of experience in sales, marketing, product management or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in business or other relevant concentration preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Self-directed with a demonstrated ability to persuade and influence in a cross-functional team environment
  • Diverse understanding of technology-based solutions in industrial applications
  • Creative thinking with proven experience translating “Voice of Customer” to successful business action
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel
  • Requires ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs.



  • Engineering Degree preferred
  • Knowledge of automation and industrial products
  • Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfactions
